Below are the current written policies about cell phone use at Scarborough Schools:

JFCK - Student Use of Cellular Telephones and Other Electronic Devices

JFCK-R - Student Use of Cellular Telephones and Other Electronic Devices

Our current policy allows students to use phones between class periods and during lunch periods.

In contrast, The Phone-Free Schools Movement, defines “Phone-Free School” as any school which adheres to a first bell to last bell no-phone policy in place, that is clearly communicated to all stakeholders and strictly enforced by all administration and staff (with exceptions in place for students with special educational or medical needs that require a personal device, as well as an office phone made available, or other means of communication provided by the school should it be necessary to communicate during the school day).

4) Email administrators to request a cell phone ban during the school day:

Scarborough High School

Scarborough Middle School

Wentworth

Primary Schools

Although phone use may not yet be a concern within the Primary Schools, contact building administrators with any concerns about technology use at Scarborough Schools

5) Attend an upcoming School Board meeting to express concerns:

The Scarborough Board of Education meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month, except for April, July and August. Meetings are held in Council Chambers at the Scarborough Municipal Building.

Thursday, June 6, 2024 - Business Meeting @ 7:00pm
